CANON: Pokemon OC, from the Pokemon Legacy forum RPG
CANON POINT: After facing the Rose Town Electric Gym
HISTORY: The Opaddeka region is a fairly modern place, with public transportation and various forms of advanced technology, such as Pokedexes, Pokemon Centers, and PCs. It has a democratically elected president, although most trainers answer to the Pokemon League instead of the government itself. To the north is the Jgsei region, an area which was originally separated from Opaddeka by circling clouds. Technology is considered taboo there, and the tribes who live there speak a very different language.
One unique thing about Opaddeka is the nature of HMs. Instead of being a more advanced form of TM, they can instead only be obtained by facing various guardians. These guardians are not Pokemon, but instead monsters that wouldn't be out of place in a DnD game, such as a Displacer Beast or a Gorgon. There are riddles that give hints on both where to go and how to defeat or placate those monsters, and accomplishing those tasks results in the Trainer gaining a tattoo on their skin that can then be used to teach their Pokemon the move through simple physical contact. In some cases, the tattoo may even give enhanced abilities to the trainer themselves.
Riddles are also an important part of gaining the allegiance of Legendary Pokemon. Each Legendary has a riddle that hints at where to find them, and what other conditions need to be met. The trainer who finds them may either face them in battle, or complete a task for them. If they can capture the Legendary in battle or complete the task, they will be rewarded with an egg that will eventually hatch into a younger, initially weaker, Legendary, whose affection for their new Trainer will depend on what method was used.
While most residents of Opaddeka are human, there are some exceptions and border cases. For example, there is the alien Floyd, who ended up here a long time ago and has settled into the training life, and who most people no longer gawk at. There are also people who have psychic powers, or control over Aura, as well as possibly-demonic creatures that dwell in a separate space from the normal region.
Of course, hardly any of this mattered to Eliza. All she knew was that she wanted to be a Pokemon trainer, ever since she was a little girl. When she was around five or six, she started manifesting apparent psychic powers, allowing her to telekinetically move almost anything. In truth, she was actually creating illusions of what she wanted to happen, but her belief was so strong she created a separate narrative in her head. She believed that everyone feared or hated her for her powers, when in reality it was mostly because she was a weird kid. Her own parents didn't tell her the truth, merely trying to discourage her from going on her own journey, so she started to believe that they were also afraid of her.
So when she was 13, she'd finally had enough. She snuck out of her house and headed to the lab to get a starter of her own. While she'd already decided on the elegant, beautiful Snivy, a Tepig shoved him out of the way and the professor, who was very tired, thought that this was her choice and shoved her out the door. She and her new Pokemon started out very much at odds with each other, actually physically attacking each other at points. However, as they continued on their way through the grasslands outside her hometown, they slowly began to grudgingly work together, as Eliza obtained more companions through various ways.
Eventually, when they finally reached Rose Town, Eliza took a moment to apologize to Slinky, her name for the Tepig. This went a long way towards further mending their relationship, and they were able to take on the Forest of Fury as a much more cohesive team. After Eliza managed to find and recruit a Deerling, she took the team she had to face the Electric Gym in Rose Town. While the battle came down to the wire, in the end the Gym Leader's Emolga took the victory. Eliza and her team returned to the hotel to lick their metaphorical wounds and figure out their next steps, which is when she received the offer.
Eliza wanted to be a trainer because...well, lots of kids did it. She specifically really wanted a Pokemon partner of her own, similar to the magical girls and their mascots she saw on TV. Her own parents weren't that against it at first, until she manifested her powers. After that, they worried about her getting in trouble due to her false beliefs about herself, but didn't really convey this worry to her. As mentioned above, she likes how Pokemon won't reject her powers, and due to losing a lot of her friends became even more determined to have a creature join her who wouldn't reject her.
She got Slinky as her starter by accident, when he shoved the Snivy she was about to choose out of the way. At first Slinky was excited to finally have a trainer, until she realized what Eliza was like. The two of them actually ended up fighting each other the instant they left town, until Blade swooped in, feeling territorial. He attacked Eliza first, and while Slinky was happy to let Eliza flail about, she finally agreed to fight after Eliza gave a rambled-out apology for her first insults, and knocked him out in one hit. Eliza got even more mad at her for that, despite having ordered the attack. She ended up carrying him back to the town they'd come from to get him healed in the hot springs there.
After that, he swore himself into her service, which made her quite happy, and she immediately dismissed Slinky again, making the Tepig dislike her even more. Their journey continued from there, until they ran into Witch, who she tried to persuade to join. However, the Vulpix was already not up for the whole "trainer" thing, and Slinky's warnings didn't help much. Eliza ended up getting hit with a Confuse Ray for the first time, and it would also not be her last. Blade tried to fight on her behalf, but ended up getting a nasty burn and injury for his trouble, while Slinky only stepped in to stop anyone from getting murdered.
Eliza ended up recalling Blade to prevent his burn from agitating him further, and then recalling Slinky when it started raining. She tried to hurry to the next town on her own, and ended up tripping over Dragon. She was pretty neutral about Digletts overall, and the way he acted ended up endearing him to her. However, it was then that Witch appeared again, and decided that Eliza was apparently stalking her. Eliza barely managed to send out her Pokemon with her flailing, and got hit by a Confuse Ray again. Her Pokemon managed to weaken the Vulpix enough, and Blade managed to communicate to her through her confusion that she could capture it. After the capture, she came back into reality, and found Dragon following her. She then asked him to join, and he demonstrated obvious agreement.
When they reached the town and had walked around for a while, Eliza finally decided to try and change her two female fire Pokemon's opinions of her. She managed to use strength and the prospect of evolving to get Witch on her side, and mangled several metaphors to get Slinky to agree to start things off as if they had just met. And right after that, she decided to charge forth into the Forest of Fury in search of a Deerling. Instead, they encountered a Carnivine that tried to eat Slinky, and when they took her down, ended up facing her mother, an even larger Carnivine who could draw energy from the forest around her. They managed to defeat her as well, Eliza claiming a Big Root as a trophy of what she believed was the overall guardian of the forest.
After a trip back to town to recuperate, Eliza was quite eager to head back, now believing they would be quite safe with the trophy on display. It was then that she heard a cry for help, and followed to find a young boy being sucked into quicksand while his Teddiursa looked on dispassionately. She was able to make the connection between that Pokemon and Slinky, and sent the Tepig to talk with the bear while she tried to drag the boy out. She managed it by making a rope out of several hanging vines, while the Teddiursa suggested that he and Slinky push both trainers into the quicksand instead. Slinky refused, however, declaring that she had no reason to take a side between the Teddiursa and his trainer, but was loyal to Eliza.
It turned out that a Sudowoodo had been hiding in the quicksand, and despite looking like a tree, it was actually a Rock-type, something that Witch and Slinky discovered when they tried to burn it. Dragon jumped (metaphorically) into action, nearly taking it down with a pair of well-placed Earthquakes, but was then knocked out by a well-placed kick. However, it was weakened enough that a combination of not-very-effective attacks from the rest of Eliza's team finished it. While the boy cheered at that, his Teddiursa had enough and attacked him, breaking his own Pokeball as well. Witch managed to beat the Teddiursa, but that just drove the boy into a further rage that they were hurting "his" Pokemon. Eliza tried to calm him down, but he ended up running off.
At the same time, a Deerling appeared, and despite some deliberation, Eliza ended up choosing to try and recruit it instead of go after the boy. However, Blade, who had been spewing insults at the boy for daring to insult his "lady," ended up going after him himself, feeling ashamed for his behavior. It turned out that the boy had an Escape Rope, which had allowed him to teleport to safety, leaving behind some useful items that Blade ended up bringing back while Eliza and her two Fire-types talked to the Deerling. Despite insulting her intelligence and excitability, they did admit that she wasn't that bad a person or trainer, especially compared to the boy they had "saved." The Deerling ended up being intrigued enough by her that he agreed to join. After that, when they'd returned to the town and were resting, Eliza found a Phanpy up for adoption, and when her team seemed to be fine with it, sent in a request to adopt him.
After that adoption, she just hung out in the town for a while, getting to know her team better and giving names to both her new Pokemon. However, she also knew there was a gym in the town, and she did want to face it sometime, since that was a big part of being a trainer. Also, the gym was Electric-type, and she had two Ground-type Pokemon, so she felt confident that they'd be able to handle it. She was almost right, but the Gym Leader turned out to have an Emolga, a part-Flying type that was immune to Ground attacks, which was able to take the victory. She felt disappointed, but also noted that she should have been more aware of the potential existence of a dual-type Pokemon in the gym's lineup, and was determined not to make the same mistake again. She might have tried to face the gym again the very next day if she hadn't received the offer right then.
PERSONALITY: Eliza is a very friendly, but also very arrogant, girl. She believes strongly that she is capable of telekinesis, and is constantly reinforcing her belief in her mind. Even when something happens that might disprove her ability, she manages to justify it to herself. When someone else tries to tell her that she doesn't actually have such powers, she can get very indignant and double down on trying to prove it. As a result, she ends up pushing many people away, although most of the time she will reframe it as them being "jealous" or "afraid" of her power, instead of her own actions driving them away.
However, if someone doesn't try to convince her of her lack of telekinetic ability, or doesn't realize said lack, she'll be perfectly friendly. She's very eager to share her experiences on her journey, and the ups and downs of her adventures with her Pokemon. Generally, she is the most friendly to Pokemon, since they can't speak up to contradict her. However, she does have some bias in which Pokemon she finds "cute" or "beautiful." She strongly prefers such Pokemon, and part of the reason she rejected Slinky at first was because she found Tepig and its evolutions ugly. In matters that don't concern her powers, however, she's perfectly willing to listen to others and change her mind. She's willing to admit when she was wrong, such as when she apologizes to Slinky for her initial treatment of her.
Eliza can be self-centered at times. She often focuses on how things make her feel, and will complain if she feels she has been slighted in any way. However, if she does notice that people or creatures she's fond of are feeling bad, she will try to make things better however she can. Of course, if she doesn't like someone, she'll most likely just decide that it serves them right to feel bad. If they end up having to work together, she is sensible enough to try and mend bridges between them, and in some cases will even admit that something is her own fault. She is also more polite towards authority figures in general, such as gym leaders and the like, even if they do end up beating her in battle. However, she will still be willing to disobey or work against authority figures if she feels that they are restricting her or being unfair to her, as can be seen from her being perfectly happy to disobey her parents.
Eliza is also very gullible and perfectly willing to take almost anything at face value. When her world dissolves into a completely different scenario as a result of being hit by a Confuse Ray, she shrugs and goes along with it, managing to somehow capture the Vulpix that confused her anyways. Since she ended up naming most of her Pokemon involved in that fight from the characteristics they showed in the confused world, she ends up accepting that confused world as real to some degree, even voluntarily going back into it to name her new Pokemon.
Eliza loves the magical girl genre. She watches a lot of magical girl anime, and dressed up as a magical girl for a Halloween party once, dressing all her Pokemon with a similar theme. She also likes to dramatize her life to some degree, imagining her adventure as being much more dramatic than it actually is. Her battles in the confused world are largely based on magical girl tropes, with Slinky appearing alongside her as a fellow magical girl with an acrobatic theme. One of the reasons she was willing to apologize was because she saw her form in the world of confusion as being pretty in its own way, and started reconsidering her own opinions on what Pokemon could be considered cute or beautiful.
Eliza also dreams of becoming a heroine herself. She will happily show off evidence of her having "conquered" a monstrous Carnivine from the Forest of Fury, and will always jump to help someone who looks like they're in danger. This has occasionally resulted in her getting caught up in the drama of others, such as when she tried to save a boy who had a starter who hated him, and ended up having to fight said starter to saved the boy, which made him upset enough to run away.
Despite the initial bad blood between some of them, Eliza does care about her Pokemon. They've slowly come together into a sort of small family, and she's familiar enough with them to know their own personal quirks and how to deal with them. She keeps them out of their Pokeballs a lot, and will often talk to them as they walk together.
STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Eliza is very familiar with the concept of magical girls, so she'll probably adjust to the various monster battles and such faster. However, she'll be unprepared for the darker side of Magical Girl Raising Project, due to only having watched optimistic, non-deconstructed magical girl shows. She has also grown into a fairly good tactician from being a Pokemon trainer, and can probably extrapolate that into instructing a group of magical people as well. She is also used to traveling and living on her own, as that's the general expectation for teenagers or even younger where she comes from.
Eliza is, however, very clumsy, and overestimates her own abilities. She often fails to notice important details, such as the fact that the person she's talking to is actually an alien, not someone in a costume.
Eliza is, as mentioned, very gullible. She will be quick to trust Fav, as well as any fellow magical people, and will probably take a while to realize when someone doesn't have her best interests at heart. She can also overestimate her own competence, and as mentioned, will be very arrogant about her psychic power. That last part probably won't come up for a while due to the depowering, though.
Speaking of which, Eliza will deal poorly with being separated from her Pokemon and losing her powers. She will be a bit more prepared for not having her powers, but despite the short period of time they've been together she already has a close bond with most of her Pokemon. If someone else regains them, she will be very quick to promise anything to get them back.
ABILITIES: Illusion - Eliza has the psychic ability to create very realistic-acting visual illusions subconsciously, simply by thinking of what she wants to happen and willing it to happen. Because of this, she believes that her powers are telekinetic, since she regularly creates illusions of things moving on their own. However, looking close will reveal that her illusions are slightly translucent.
World of Confusion - Whenever she is hit by one of Witch's Confuse Ray attacks, Eliza enters an alternate world where she is a ruler of some sort, as well as a magical girl, and her Pokemon are similarly either human or monster companions of some sort. There seems to be some supernatural influence beyond her own imagination, since on occasion she can "hear" what her Pokemon say to her in this state, although she definitely puts her own spin on things.
REGAINS:
Slinky the Tepig - She literally shoved her way into becoming Eliza's starter, leading to a rift between them at the start. However, they have slowly started to accept each other, and Slinky is very protective of her trainer, although she often acts sarcastic when Eliza gets too into her fantasies. Her Ability is Blaze, and her moves are Defense Curl, Rollout, Tail Whip, and Ember.
Blade the Pidgey - Eliza's first catch, who was fainted and nearly killed by Slinky. She hurried to heal him, and he was so grateful to her that he swore his service to her. He tends to act according to his own code of chivalry, and is most loyal to Eliza first and foremost. His Ability is Keen Eye, and his moves are Tackle, Sand-attack, Agility, and Air Slash.
Witch the Vulpix - She managed to escape Eliza once, but ended up accidentally running into her again. Annoyed because she thought she was being followed, she ended up attacking, but ended up captured. While initially annoyed, she was pacified a bit by the idea of being able to achieve her true potential, or even evolve. She and Slinky often snark about Eliza together. Her Ability is Drought, and her moves are Ember, Roar, Will-o-Wisp, and Confuse Ray.
Dragon the Diglett - A strange Diglett who randomly bumped into Eliza on her journey. While he can't communicate at all, he seems fond of her, and will often stick close to her side. He sometimes has nightmares of when he was part of a larger group of Diglett in the Diglett Tunnel, without any individuality of his own. His Ability is Sand Force, and his moves are Astonish, Sucker Punch, Earthquake, and Mud-Slap.
Flute the Phanpy - A rather young, energetic Phanpy who Eliza adopted from a Pokemon adoption service. He sees Eliza as his new mother, and the rest of her team as his adopted aunts and uncles. He occasionally acts like a brat, but will always listen to Eliza in the end, and enjoys being cuddled by her. He has some musical talent with that snout of his as well. His Ability is Pickup, and his moves are Endure, Flail, Tackle, and Odor Sleuth.
Crown the Deerling - A very laid-back and casual Deerling who Eliza met in the Forest of Fury. She managed to slowly convince him over to her side, even with her team not quite helping. He considers all humans kind of ridiculous and weird, and thus isn't that bothered by Eliza. He's not much of a fighter, preferring to avoid or slowly weaken his opponents. His Ability is Sap Sipper, and his moves are Camouflage, Leech Seed, Charm, and Sand-Attack.
Seal Pack - A pack of seals that Eliza found on a dusty shelf in a store. She was sold it for cheap, although she hasn't actually put it to use yet. Most of the seals simply create extra aesthetic effects upon a Pokemon being sent out, although there is one Flash Seal that can create a bright enough light to blind opponents temporarily. (And allies, if they don't close their eyes)
Big Root - An item that gives back extra HP on HP-draining attacks. Eliza obtained it after defeating a giant Carnivine in the Forest of Fury, and wears it as a trophy.
Mega Ring - A silver bracelet with a pink gem in it. It is attuned to Eliza, so only she can use it for Mega Evolution purposes. Unfortunately, due to not having any Mega Stones, its value is mostly aesthetic.

Eliza yawned as she stretched out her arms, looking out the window of the inn she was staying at. She reached towards her belt instinctively, but touched only air. Right...her Pokemon weren't here with her. That was the price she had to pay for agreeing to become an actual magical girl. She was going to help this place, and make it so much better! She'd fight whatever monsters appeared, and fix whatever needed to be fixed!
With that in mind, she hurried through her morning routine, stumbling a few times when she got too excited thinking about what today was going to be like. Everyone she'd met had been pretty friendly so far, and whenever she wasn't sure about something, Fav was there to help! Most of the people had believed her about her powers as well, even though she couldn't give them a demonstration this time.
As she picked up her phone, she gasped when she saw the Item Shop notification. Clearly visible was a pair of Pokeballs, one with a Tepig's image imprinted over it and one with a Deerling. Her hands shook as she tapped on the images to confirm, and she nearly dropped the phone when she saw their names. The price wasn't quite what she could reach right now, but she remembered there was a task to pick up a package and deliver it, and she could get enough candy from that to buy one of them! Fingers still trembling, she quickly started writing out a message to the whole network.
Hi everyone! I bet you already saw the new Item Shop items, right? Well, those Pokemon are mine! I got separated from them when I accepted the deal to become a magical girl, but now I can get them again! So please don't buy them, okay? Thank you so much!
She quickly tapped the "send" button and threw open the door, slamming it behind her and calling a quick "good morning" to her neighbors. Someone might not have seen the message, though, so she had to hurry up and finish that task before someone else could buy her Pokemon! She knew that they would be loyal to her, and just having their Pokeball didn't mean someone else could control them, but that would still make things so difficult!
Don't worry, Slinky, Crown, she thought. Even if you are snatched away by someone else, I'll just have to find them! I can pay them back with whatever amount of candy they want, and you'll be back with me before you know it! And if it really becomes necessary, I will fight to get your Pokeballs back! She couldn't really imagine why that would become necessary, though. Sure, there were some people here who were a little rude sometimes, but that didn't mean they'd actually try to kidnap her important companions!
She stopped in front of one of the buildings, sighing in relief when she saw a package there. She ran up to grab it, before turning around and nearly tripping over her own feet. Luckily, she managed to get herself back upright, and hurried onward, headed for her new destination.
Eliza stared down at her phone, looking at the message. Apparently her friend wanted to meet her at the park right away! But why was she sending this so late? Still, it wouldn't be nice to keep someone waiting, and her friend might even be in danger, so she quickly grabbed her bag and headed out the door. Magical girls were supposed to help people and each other, after all!
Once they were outside the hotel, she sent out Slinky, who looked around at the situation and then turned back to stare at her.
"Why are you even out here?" she asked. Eliza grinned.
"One of my friends just sent me a text saying she needed to meet up with me at the park! It's really important, so let's hurry, okay?"
Slinky stared at her, eyes wide. "Eliza. People have died. How do you know she has your best interests at heart?" While Eliza couldn't understand, the disapproving expression on her face was pretty obvious. Eliza just shook her head.
"Don't worry! Just because some people turned out to be kind of bad doesn't mean everyone here is! I bet we've already gotten rid of the people who'd actually hurt others! Besides, she's my friend! We've been bonding ever since I got here, so I know her better than you!" With that, she turned and hurried in the direction of the park. Slinky stared some more, but then hurried after her.
Halfway to the park, Eliza seemed to remember her actual powers, raising a hand and transforming into a much more brightly colored outfit with a pair of wings sprouting from her back. With a grin, she leapt into the air, covering much more distance. Slinky groaned, and hurried even faster. There was no way she could catch up now, and while Eliza was usually good about noticing when she'd left her behind, she'd probably get all the way to the park before remembering to turn back.
Eliza looked around when she landed in the grass of the park. "Hello?" she called. "I'm here! What's the problem?" It was then that she realized that Slinky hadn't caught up with her. However, before she could turn back to find her Pokemon, she suddenly felt a heavy weight slam into her back.
"Give me all your candies," growled a voice. Eliza gasped.
"What? I thought we were friends! I'd give you candies if you asked, but you know I'll die if I give you all of them! Are you running low? I can split them evenly with you!" She tried to smile, while still trying to wriggle free.
"Don't bother," hissed the voice. "I got my full strength back at last, there's no way you can beat me this way. And I'd rather not have all your candy disappear into the ether."
"Please don't do this! Magical girls aren't supposed to act like this! We're supposed to work together!" Eliza was panicking now, totally lost. She had tried to keep her spirits up even as people died one by one, trying to justify things, but this betrayal was finally too much.
"Oh please. You still believe that? You really are stupid."
"That's...no reason...to kill her!" snorted a voice. Both magical girls turned their heads, and saw Slinky standing there, staring at them and snorting smoke. "Eliza, how could you leave me behind?"
"Sorry Slinky, but I didn't have a chance to come back for you-gkk!" Eliza choked as her "friend" pressed even harder on her throat.
"Leave her alone!" snorted Slinky, before lunging forwards, as the girl on top of Eliza raised her own fist to counter it.
